Growth Technology pH Buffer Solution, pH 4 or pH 7, 300ml
Growth Technology pH buffer solution for calibration keeps your pH pen honest. Each 300ml bottle holds a liquid with a fixed, known pH, so you can check your meter and correct it if it has drifted.
Every pH meter wanders a little over time. A quick check every few weeks means the numbers you see are the numbers your plants actually get.
pH buffer solution for calibration, in pH 4 and pH 7
pH 7.00 is neutral and is the first point most meters calibrate to. pH 4.00 is the second point, for meters that use two-point calibration and for checking accuracy on the acidic side, where most hydroponic feeds sit.
Buy one of each for a full two-point calibration, or just the pH 7 if your pen only needs a single point.
Who needs a pH buffer
- Anyone with a pH pen or 5-in-1 meter
- Hydroponic gardeners checking a countertop garden or DWC bucket
- Growers of acid lovers such as blueberries and camellias
- Home educators running water chemistry experiments
How to calibrate with Growth Technology buffer
- Pour a little into a clean cup. Never dip the meter into the bottle itself, so the rest stays pure.
- Rinse the probe first. Use distilled or clean water to avoid carrying anything across.
- Start with pH 7.00. Dip, wait for the reading to settle, and adjust the meter to 7.00.
- Then check pH 4.00. Rinse, dip and adjust again if your meter offers two-point calibration.
- Throw away the used solution. Used buffer is no longer reliable, so don’t pour it back.
pH calibration questions
How often should I calibrate my pH meter?
Every two to four weeks with regular use, and whenever readings seem strange.
Do I need pH 4 and pH 7?
Many meters calibrate at pH 7 and then pH 4 for best accuracy. Check your meter’s instructions; some only need one point.
How long does buffer solution last?
Keep the cap tight and the bottle cool and out of sun. Once opened, use it within the period on the label.
Can I reuse buffer solution?
No. Pour a small amount out for each calibration and discard it afterwards.
