Grow Gadgets Digital EC Meter Pen

£19.00

The Grow Gadgets pen is a simple EC meter for hydroponics that tells you how strong your feed is. Dip it in, and in a few seconds you know whether the water is too weak, too rich or just right.

It takes the worry out of feeding herbs, salad and tomatoes, and it is a small, friendly tool that fits in a pocket.

A one-button EC meter for hydroponics and feeding

EC stands for electrical conductivity. Clean water barely conducts at all, and the more feed you dissolve, the higher the reading climbs, so it is a quick way to check your mix.

It comes pre-calibrated with automatic temperature compensation and a little carry case, so it is ready to use the moment it arrives.

What you can check with an EC pen

  • Feed strength in a countertop hydroponic garden or DWC bucket
  • Tap water and rainwater before you add any feed
  • Liquid feed for tomatoes and chillies in pots
  • Salt levels in a self-watering reservoir over time

Why this EC pen is a good first meter

  • Wide range. 0 to 9,990µS/cm, which covers everything from rainwater to strong feed.
  • Accurate. ±2%, with automatic temperature compensation.
  • Pre-calibrated. Ready to use straight from the box.
  • Adjustable. A small screwdriver is included for calibrating later.
  • Button cell powered. Replaceable battery and a protective carry case.

EC meter questions

What EC should hydroponic water be?
Herbs and salad usually like a gentle EC of about 0.8 to 1.6mS/cm (800 to 1,600µS/cm). Tomatoes and chillies like a little more. Follow your feed’s chart.

How do I calibrate an EC meter?
Dip it in an EC calibration solution such as 1.413mS/cm and adjust the screw until it matches. Check it every month or so.

Can I use it for soil?
It reads liquids. Test the water running out of a pot, or mix compost with distilled water and test that.

How do I look after it?
Rinse the probe with clean water after use and store it dry in the case.
