Spider Farmer Slim Indoor Herb Garden Plant Stand with Grow Lights

£109.00

There's a gap beside the fridge that's just right for an indoor herb garden. Most of us fill it with a mop or a stack of recycling. Imagine a slim tower of green there instead, with its own grow lights: a pot of basil within arm's reach of the chopping board, a tray of pea shoots catching the light, and the smell of fresh mint when you open the cupboard for the teapot.

This slim plant stand with grow lights is a kitchen herb garden that takes up no more floor than a bin. At just 40 cm wide and 30 cm deep, it tucks into the corners small homes are full of, and brings your own homestead, all year round to the room where your family already gathers.

Grow your own happiness

Many people find that a few minutes with their plants each morning is a quiet, steadying start to the day. There's something calming about checking on the seedlings while the kettle boils, and a small lift in snipping your own herbs for dinner, especially on grey winter afternoons when the garden centre feels a long way off.

For children, it's a little daily wonder. They can sow a tray on Monday and spot the first shoots by the weekend, then sprinkle what they've grown over their own lunch. It's an easy, everyday way to show them where food really comes from.

What you can grow in your indoor herb garden

  • Kitchen herbs all winter: basil, mint, parsley, chives and coriander
  • Pea shoots, plus sunflower and radish microgreens
  • Cut-and-come-again lettuce and baby salad leaves
  • Spring seedlings to plant out on a balcony or windowsill
  • Up to four seed trays on each lit shelf

Why you'll love it

  • Grow lights on every shelf. Each of the three lit shelves has its own pair of full-spectrum LED bars, so your herbs never have to fight for the windowsill, even in a darker kitchen.
  • Small footprint, big harvest. A small plant stand with grow lights that fits where a wider unit won't: beside the fridge, at the end of the worktop or in a narrow alcove.
  • One plug does it all. All six lights run from a single UK plug, with no tangle of cables behind the fridge.
  • Clicks together without tools. The frame slots together by hand, and the tiers adjust as your plants grow taller.
  • Wheels or feet, your choice. Fit the lockable castors to roll it out for watering, or the adjustable feet to keep it steady on an uneven floor.
  • Kind to your kitchen. Waterproof shelf mats with drainage holes catch the drips, and the bottom shelf is free for bigger pots or your watering can.
  • A cosy cover when you want it. The optional zip-on cover with a clear window keeps young seedlings snug through chilly months.

Frequently asked questions

How many hours should I leave the lights on?
For most kitchen herbs and houseplants, 12 to 14 hours a day works well. Seedlings often prefer 14 to 16 hours, then a proper dark night. A plug-in timer makes this easy.

How far should the lights be from the plants?
On these stands the lights sit on each shelf, so raise or lower the shelf so the tops of the plants sit a comfortable few centimetres below the bars. If leaves bleach or look stressed, give them a little more space.

How much electricity does it use?
At 54W for about 12 hours a day it uses about 0.65 kWh a day. At about 25p per kWh, that is roughly 16p a day.

Is it safe around pets and children?
Keep trailing cords tidy and out of reach, and supervise young children around water and electricity as you would with any household appliance. Place the stand where it will not be knocked.

Does it have a UK plug?
Yes. All the lights on this stand run from a single UK plug.

How long does assembly take?
The frame clicks together by hand, without tools, in a short session.
